Biography
Karen Thirlwall is a professional musician
based near Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
She has been performing for audiences most of her life.
Karen’s original music is a mix of pop/folk and is influenced by a variety of artists that she has listened to and covered over the years. The set list of cover songs features popular selections from the 60's to now from rock, pop, folk, celtic and country genres. Her crystal-clear vocals and warm presence captivate listeners wherever she goes!
Performing most of her childhood in church choirs, school musicals and hometown community events, Karen also studied piano, and then began her dream of learning guitar, during her time at university. Having always been passionate about singing, she finally decided it was time to go for it! In 1994, Karen played her debut performance showcasing songs from her initial original release entitled “The Voice Inside Me.”
A year later she moved to Whistler, BC, and for six years she appeared regularly throughout the resort town, playing hundreds of times annually. This exposure led to a production deal with the independent label “One Drop Records” in Whistler, where she recorded “Wide Eyed” ©1998. In 2001, the song “Fall Away” from this album was featured on an episode of “Higher Ground”, a Lions Gate teen drama series television program, which is still being broadcast around the world.
The same year, it was on to Calgary, Alberta. Karen quickly proved to be a staple in Alberta’s live music scene in the city and surrounding mountain areas. She was featured on “A Channel’s” Six O’clock News, “The Breakfast Show” and “Wired” as well as the CBC Radio Morning News. Over the next few years, she recorded 3 more acoustic albums of her own songs, as well as a Christmas collection with fellow musician and friend, Tim Fraser, and used her creativity to produce several custom-written songs for friends’ and family members’ special events.
